Coco Peat: Porous and lightweight soil mix for any gardening need
What is Coco Peat?
As the name suggests, coco peat comes from coconuts. Normally coco peat is made from the pith inside a coconut husk. Coco peat also comes as a by-product from the coconut industry. Normally it comes in the form of brick or powder.
Why to use Coco Peat?
- Coco Peat is naturally anti-fungal
- Coco Peat is highly porous and provide good aeration to the roots
- It can hold water up to 7 times of its weight without making soil much muddy
- Biodegradable and have long life
- Coco Peat is very light
How to Use Coco Peat?
If it is in powder format you can use directly in the soil mixture or alone as per the need. Follow the below steps if it is in brick form:
- Break the brick into multiple pieces.
- Take these pieces in a big tub and add at least 10 litre of water for 1 kg of brick.
- Leave the coco peat to absorb the water for some time (at least one hour).
- Mix the cocopeat properly.
- Squeeze out the water from the coco peat with the help of some cloth or directly by hand.
- Dry it and use it as per your need.
Where to use Coco Peat?
- It can be used as a media to grow seeds as it holds water for a long time.
- It can be mixed with the soil and fertilizer for soil mix
- Plants can be grown in only coco peat as well if provide proper fertilizers
- It is used in hydroponic production
- Very much suitable soil mix for growing plants in terrace and balconies as it is very light and does not put much additional weight to the pots.
